Find Developer(s)

You have a few options for how your product can get developed. You can:

1. Do it yourself
2. Hire freelancers
3. Find an agency by searching the web
4. Use our development services.

Doing it yourself

If you have strong technical developers on your founding team then consider yourself very lucky.

Note though, most technical developers are strong in one technology and use that knowledge to figure out the basics of other technologies. However, full product offerings these days often include a website, iOS and Android apps, and possibly a server side API with a database. Therefore, unless you have a team of developers, with at least one strong developer in each of these technologies, you will most likely eventually need to outsource part, or all, of your project. Just something to keep in mind.

Note, if your product is a content based website or an e-commerce website, you may be able to implement it yourself with WordPress, even if you don’t have a software background. WordPress is a software platform that you can use to create websites without any, or with minimal, technical knowledge. You can watch our tutorials on how to setup and customize a WordPress site from start to finish. If you decide to use WordPress, we strongly recommend you invest a little bit of time to learn the basics of how to use it so you can build your site yourself and be in complete control. If you’re not sure about it, start with our WordPress tutorials and see if it’s something that you can use.

Freelancers

If you want to try using a freelancer, the 3 big freelance platforms can be put into tiers based on the quality of their developers and their costs.

Fiverr

Fiverr is the bottom tier. It is fantastic for a lot of different services. They have many affordable gigs on there for WordPress. You can have a WordPress site setup and developed for less than $200. However, I wouldn’t expect to find many options for more advanced software development.

Upwork

Upwork is the middle tier, between Fiverr and Toptal in terms of quality and cost. You will find many software developers on Upwork and the quality of their work ranges from bad to great. However, the experience level of the majority of their developers falls in the entry-level to mid-level range.

Toptal

Toptal is the top tier. They even tout that they have the top 3% of freelance developers. And they do in fact have a very rigorous application process that filters only the best developers. Because of this, it is much more expensive than Fiverr or Upwork.
